Report from trans-cultural experiment as a Japanese salaryman (Introduction)

This is an intensive report from my 4 years experience working in Japan just to observe why everyone finds it so ‘fascinating’

After living outside of Japan since becoming 16 year old, I had been fully westernised and dejapanised – often disrespected Japanese cultures.  However, while doing my Master’s degree in Intercultural Communciation, my classmates often ask me how the working culture is in Japan, which I only knew theoritically.

In order to be able to talk about Japanese working culture, I decided to experiment myself to just be in it to obtain raw information about people, enviroments, to learn ‘how’ and ‘why’ they do things in their way, to see things from their point of view. so I can complain about them as I experienced it 😛 To achieve this goal efficiently and effectively, I have decided to work for a midium-sized manufacturing company where no one has international experience or English skills, rather than working for a large and international company like Sony or Toyota. although I do not think Japanese companies are internationalised at all – just modernised.

more to come…
